Geo- political events both sporadic and sustained, have increasingly impacted shipping and trade in the recent times. Territorial disputes and conflicts like Ukraine – Russia; trade restrictions and increased tariffs like USA- China; internal country regulations as in the case of the covid pandemic; currency fragmentation as in the case of non-dollar trade etc have all led to disrupted supply chains, increased costs, reduced trade volumes, and increased complexity of shipping operations in varying degrees.
This situation certainly merits dialogue among the impacted segments of our industry to identify strategies to mitigate the risk where possible and strategies for rapid response and recovery in other cases. Technology tools using data analytics, AI and cyber security solutions show potential and are emerging as robust solutions. To deliberate on all of this, AMICIE is organising a half-day seminar on ‘Weathering Geo-Political Risks for International Shipping and Trade’ at the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore on Friday, 14th March 2025.
The seminar speakers are drawn from leading multinational organisations in the shipping industry. They will reflect upon the challenges, global best practices and provide their perspectives with innovative suggestions.
The seminar will be anchored by AMICIE member Mr Punit Oza, a seasoned shipping professional, podcast presenter and the current President of the Institute of Shipbrokers (ICS), London. Punit is a well-known name in Asian shipping circles and will bring a systemic approach to the seminar topic.
