Membership Rules

AMICIE, hereinafter referred to as the Association is registered as a Society under Indian Societies Act, after drawing up  Memorandum  of Association and Bye Laws to obtain necessary approvals. 

The jurisdiction rules  would  always  override  any rules made by the Society and its committees, notwithstanding the powers otherwise so vested in them.


It is to be managed by  an  Executive  Committee  hereinafter referred to as the Committee or EC.

Membership is open to all professionals in all shipping and associated fields including logistics to couriering,   holistically   considering.  that   shipping.  in   its.  widest   commercial   usage.  is   all encompassing covering broad spectrum of trade and commerce. However, rights of membership is duly reserved by the founders first and committees later on.


Initially, members  and  fellows of other  such institutions such as ICS (Shipbrokers), NI (Nautical Institute), CMMI (Company of Master Mariners), IMEI (Institute of Marine Engineers India), Naval Architects (RINA), those engaged in IACS, H&M, Clubs, Ship Finance and their equivalent/affiliates in India and other countries  may be  inducted. Those involved in shipping, trade and logistics as Agents, Freight Forwarders, Customs Agents and Logistics Service providers are also welcome to join  so  as  to  foster  good  professional relationship with common goals for mutual benefits of networking. 


Membership should be approved by the Membership Committee. In this regard, the decisions of the EC will  be  final with one  natural  right of  appeal through Chairman to an expanded EC with three additional Senior Fellows from Membership Committee, but always odd in number in total.

Association  may  for  convenience  of  operations,  set  up branches in any country or part of the world,   duly.  managed  by  an  Executive  Committee  at branch level with one seat reserved for President of EC at global/international level. On setting up branches, chapters or associates overseas a Head Consul shall be appointed to coordinate such efforts.


The  Chairman  shall  be  a  Fellow  or  a  honorary  member  or a  Patron of high standing in the shipping world. He/she would have voting right, if indeed voting, as a last resort, but to maintain status quo in a hung decision scenario. 


Executive Committee shall consist of a Honorary Chairman, President, Past President (after the first  tenure), Vice  President,  Treasurer,  Secretary  and  two  senior  Fellows  all elected by the General body for a term of 3years. They shall perform their official duties as honorary voluntary office bearers without any payment except for direct expenses and travel as authorized by the Committee itself. 


All  Committee  members  are  barred from the same committee for the next consecutive term except higher positions, but may be re-elected after a gap of two terms subject to approval by disciplinary committee on past performance.
